Cur Anatomy

Description

Lab Journal, 6/11/73

We had a casualty today. As always, we preformed the autopsy quickly and efficiently. This strain of the Cur, cX2-b; ID #328, was one of our more stable specimens. The variants, cX2-a, cX2-c, and cX2-h are in good health. The death does not appear to be linked to the genetic coding, merely an anomaly. We are preparing another cX2-b in the East Wing of the Gen. Lab.

Autopsy revealed nothing unexpected, the spine was in good health, unlike some of the other Cur, we saw no abnormalities other than those specific to this strain. We did find that an aneurysm in the diencephalon region burst. It was most likely present at birth. Lungs functioned better than expected, and joints were limber.

The mental capabilities of #328 were nothing special. He had moderate aggression. Spoke mediocre English; his vocal cords where less developed than the other cX2 specimens. Had good judgment and logic capabilities, no sensory issues. Difficulty differentiating faces, of Human or Cur. Relied on smell. This was a problem.
-One thing did stand out however, his problem solving skills were better than all others, which is strange considering the placement of the aneurysm. Extremely dexterous as well.

Evangeline is doing a more detailed write up on #328, she was his primary supervisor and caretaker.

I'm submitting the full autopsy results by Tuesday.

So the Cur is a genetically engineered animal. It's origins are central to the plot of my story, but I can't give too much away.

The year is 2073, if you hadn't guessed.

Some interesting specs:

There brains are designed to be the perfect, logical killing machines.

They walk on two legs, but sprint on all fours.

There genius species name literally means "Changed to look like man" in Latin.

The gap in there ribcage allows their lungs to expand for extreme bursts of speed, or sustained running.

They learn speech, but most of the sounds in the English language are difficult for them to duplicate.

Modified from a cougar, the largest feline. (It's not a "Big Cat") So they share similar coloring, body size, and can purr, which they incorporate into speech.

Named for the sound they make when they are kits. Also, it is (in this time) the old word for: A mongrel or inferior dog; A detestable person

More to come, as I write! ;P
